The money from the Government will go to renewable energy fund, Greencoat UK Wind, where it will be spread out across the wind farms located in areas ranging from Scotland to Kent in the south.

Speaking to edie on the investment, RenewableUK director of external affairs, Jennifer Webber, said: “”This announcement confirms the Government’s commitment to wind energy. After a record year of investment in 2012, this announcement will boost even further investor confidence in the UK’s wind industry.

“As the Department for Business has recognised, wind has the potential to create tens of thousands of new jobs – up to 76,000 by 2021, and this investment can catalyse the private investment needed,” she added.

The investment is a boost to the UK industry and may help tackle the issue highlighted this week by the European wind industry that it is facing a severe skills shortage of around 5,500 appropriately qualified staff per year.
