A suite of free e-learning modules has been launched by WRAP to aid procurement professionals in five priority areas: construction and major refurbishment projects; furniture; information, communication and technology; reuse and remanufacturing; textiles.

The modules have been developed as part of WRAP’s work for the European Pathway to Zero Waste (EPOW) programme, which is supported by Defra.

They are designed to help businesses and organisations unlock potential cost savings through using resources more efficiently, and sending less waste to landfill.

Each module includes good practice procurement wording and sample contract clauses, to help users implement sustainable procurement decisions simply. They can be used as part of a work schedule and can be completed over time, rather than one sitting.

WRAP’s head of products & materials Dr Mervyn Jones said that through the EPOW programme, it has worked directly with more than 40 public sector organisations in the south east as part of a targeted assistance scheme.

He added this work has helped embed sustainable procurement into corporate policies and contracts, and shaped the behaviour of their private sector supply chains.

“We’ve influenced more than 5.75 billion euros in policy spend, and almost 460 million euros’ worth of contracts, in moving towards more sustainable procurement,” he said.
