Private sector must lead Wales to sustainable future

Wales needs the private sector to drive innovation if it is to create a "truly sustainable Wales", says Communities & Tackling Poverty Minister Jeff Cuthbert.

Ahead of a meeting with the Federation of Small Businesses Wales (FSB) he praised businesses for recognising the need to balance economic, social and environmental goals.

He also commended the Welsh private sector for taking the lead in sustainable development.

Cuthbert said: “I want to make sure we learn from the best practice in the private sector that is available. This isn’t about the public versus the private sector.

“It is about a joint effort, working together. As a nation we must think differently and we must act collectively – this includes the private sector,” he added.

The Welsh Government has in place a Sustainable Development Charter, which is a voluntary commitment to put sustainable development at the heart of operations.

BT, Tata Steel and Marks and Spencer are some of the major firms signed up to the Charter.
