Customers are being called on to return surplus paint to any of the UK Crown Decorating Centres between April 18 and May 6.

The scheme will see donated paint re-processed by social enterprise company, Nimtech, before being distributed to community projects in partnership with regeneration charity Groundwork.

Crown Decorating Centres scheme, Kick Out the Can, will also recycle plastic and metal paint containers brought in by customers.

Crown Decorating Centres sustainability manager Mark Lloyd said: “The Easter break is an opportunity many people take to have a bit of a clear out”.

Lloyd says customers can bring up to 10 containers on each visit during the scheme. According to Lloyd, statistics show that there is around 54 million litres of unused paints being stored across the country.

“The returned paint will again be sent to our headquarters for re-processing by social enterprise Nimtech. Then the paint will be distributed to community projects and charitable efforts nationwide by regeneration charity Groundwork,” said Lloyd.

Last year, the scheme helped transform communal gardens, park benches and youth centres as well as providing paint for a social housing apprenticeship scheme.

The initiative is incentivising householders by offering a 20% discount voucher in return for unwanted paint.
