Molson Coors’ hope is that the new centre will help the company in its global ambition to cut energy consumption by 25% and greenhouse gas emissions by 15% by 2020, with the cost savings from the latest project expected to contribute to a broader global saving of £10m per annum.

In its first full year, the new centre is expected to reduce energy consumption at the brewery to 4.5 kWh and improve CO2 emissions by 6.5%.

Reduced emissions

Molson Coors supply chain director Jim Shaw said: “The new energy centre is a huge milestone for us…

“Modernising our infrastructure and technology enables us to become more efficient and flexible in our delivery. We are also able to reduce energy use and emissions and support our ambition to continually improve our ‘beer print’ as part of our corporate responsibility agenda.”

The latest project is one of many initiatives completed by Molson Coors since setting out its five-year redevelopment plan which includes the introduction of a new shrink wrap facility, cutting the company’s CO2 emissions by 4%.

Since 2012, Molson Coors has also achieved a 2.4% water intensity reduction and has set a 2020 zero-waste-to-landfill target.
