Sustainability stats: This week in numbers

This week of sustainability news was dominated by the Queen's speech on Wednesday and the accompanying flurry of green legislation from the incoming Conservative Government.

Green groups were disheartened by just two brief mentions of environmental issues, and the accompanying Energy Bill did little to lift spirits with its commitment to a new Oil and Gas Authority.

In related political news this week, a massive online petition is clamouring for David Cameron to copy France and start tackling food waste.

It was also a busy week in the city of Edinburgh, with the council announcing an expansive new solar scheme, and the University reversing its recent decision on fossil fuel divestment.

Finally, flat pack giant Ikea reported good news from its Nordic operations, as its renewable investments are starting to pay off in a big way.
