BEIS re-appoint CLT to help commercialise cleantech

The consultancy has been re-appointed as the main delivery partner for incubation support services to BEIS’s Energy Entrepreneurs fund, a competitive funding scheme to support the development and demonstration of technologies, products and processes in the areas of energy efficiency, power generation, and heat and electricity storage.  

CLT will work to ensure that businesses that apply for the fund maximise commercial impacts and assisting them from early stages to commercialisation. In doing this, CLT will help increase the chances of and speed in which British low-carbon technologies can enter the market.

“The EEF has been a great success, with more than £38m awarded to over 80 British companies to date.  A good number of companies, that have received CLT’s support through the EEF, are now making significant progress in the commercial world,” CLT’s co-founder and chief executive Beverley Gower-Jones said.

“Our work will help the next generation of the UK’s low carbon tech community to achieve commercialisation, which means for this country: job creation, skills development, exports and new investment opportunities.  BEIS knows that a transition to a low carbon future, where the UK meets its carbon reduction commitments, will only happen if British innovation reaches market.”

The consultancy was re-appointed as part of a competitive tender process. CLT will be leading a consortium of firms to deliver a work programme over the next three years. The consortium is made up of members of Amec Foster Wheeler, Arup, Carbon Trust and WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff.

CLT chief executive Beverly Gower-Jones called upon green innovators to co-operate with big businesses to carve out a route to market. Gower-Jones suggested that innovators shouldn’t go “designing in the dark” in the penultimate part of a cleantech innovation mini-series earlier this year.
