JCB choice for Merseyside

Waste management firm Mersey Waste Holdings (MWH) has taken delivery of nine of the latest JCB models to enhance waste handling operations at its depots across Merseyside.The firm is the main provider of waste management services to Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority. It has purchased six 456 Wastemaster wheeled loading shovels, one 446 wheeled loading shovel and two 3CX backhoe

loaders to process commercial and domestic waste. “When specifying machinery for these waste handlings applications we assessed the credentials of several manufacturers,” says Paul Smyth, group contracts and procurement manager at MWH

“The key criteria were value, quality of equipment and after-sales support.”

The JCB machinery is operated within several of the recycling facilities, sorting and handling the waste deposited by refuse vehicles. The disposal of non-recyclable waste is carried out at four waste transfer stations situated in Southport, Knowsley, Wirral and Liverpool.

Here, the JCB equipment is used to load material into bulk haulage vehicles for transportation to disposal sites.

Under its contracts with Merseyside WDA, MHW manages the disposal of all household and commercial waste collected by the five district councils in the region. It also manages and operates 14 household waste recycling centres throughout Merseyside and a further five sites on behalf of Halton and Warrington Borough Councils.

The machines have been tailored to the customer’s requirements with the 456 models featuring a high-specification, bespoke waste environment package. This includes the addition of a wide core radiator with reverse fan, hydraulic tank guards and puncture resistant tyres, which combine to create a robust machine.
