Now entering their fourth year, the Awards were established by the Corporation to recognise and reward sustainable business practices by companies both nationally and in London. As the City is the world’s leading financial centre, the Awards also recognise sustainable business practice within the global financial community.

The 2005 awards will be presented in partnership with Environment Business, the UK Social Investment Forum, Future Forests, The Bridge House Trust, The London Sustainability Exchange, The Society for the Environment, The London Sustainable Construction Project and Earthwatch.

Submissions are invited in eight categories:

  • Contributions to air quality and tackling climate change;

  • Sustainable and ethical investment and asset management;

  • Traffic reduction and transport management;

  • Resource conservation;

  • Access to goods and services for disadvantaged communities;

  • The built environment;

  • Biodiversity: Sustainable use and conservation;

  • Environmental Management.

    The judging process reviews the existence and impact of an environmental or ethical policy and the business’ commitment to continual improvement.

    Simon Mills, Environmental Co-ordinator at the Corporation of London, said: “The Awards have received accreditation from the Royal Society of Arts, which means that the category winners will be eligible for entry into the European Environmental Awards.”

    Environment Business editor Rob Bell, one of the awards judging panel, told edie news: “We are proud to be supporting these prestigious awards and pleased that they have been recognised by the RSA. I would encourage companies to get their entries in before the closing date, especially now that they are linked to the European scheme.”

    The closing date for entries is 1st December 2004. For an electronic copy of the Awards entry form visit Liveable city Awards
