First local drinking water information website goes online

People in Des Moines, Iowa have access to 'real-time' water quality information via the first website set up under the US EPA's Environmental Monitoring for Public Access to Community Tracking (EMPACT) programme.

The website was developed by the Des Moines Water Works as part of the US Government’s EMPACT programme which was set up to make environmental information available to the US public.

The Des Moines Water Works/EMPACT website provides access to information on individual contaminants in Des Moines’ drinking water supply as it leaves the treatment plant. This information can be accessed over any time period and in a variety of formats, including both tables and graphs. The site also provides information on existing EPA standards.
