International Business Briefs: software, water technology, hybrid vehicles, and health and safety

In this week’s International Business Briefs, a US software company wins a new contract in Mexico; raising money for water technology; new hybrid vehicles in the US; and an environmental, health and safety training programme.

Software company Haestad Methods has announced the implementation of a strategic water resources modelling project with Mexico-based City of Salamanca Public Utilities, in co-operation with the State Water Commission of Guanajuato. The contract includes the provision of software, and services for building, calibrating, and simulating models.

Water technology company H2O Innovation has announced that it has completed a private placement with Fonds d’investissement REA and Corporation Waskahegen for CA$450,000. The proceeds will be used for working capital for the present and future contracts.

Vehicle manufacturer General Motors will be offering optional hybrid powertrains on several of its most popular models including trucks, SUVs and mid-sized sedans, starting in late 2003. “This is a major commitment to offer consumers three different hybrid propulsion systems on three vehicle architectures, representing more than a dozen of our most popular models,” GM President and CEO Rick Wagoner said.

US Environmental health and safety association, NAEM, will be launching a new educational programme beginning in February 2003. ‘Creating Business Value Through Strategic Environmental Management’ is intended to help participants create business value by integrating environmental management programmes into all aspects of their business.
