Reservoir and Canal Lining

WALO have been lining reservoirs with dense asphaltic concrete since 1939, completing 56 contracts to date, with one as large as 1,850,000m˛.

Reservoir and Canal Lining

The dense asphaltic (DAC) lining system is very well suited to the reservoir environment because it is non-toxic, impermeable, strong and yet flexible enough to withstand large volume of water being pumped in and out on a daily cycle as with power station pump storage schemes.

Canals lined with DAC can withstand great pressures that are exerted on the side of slipways when large vessels travelling through the canal cause large wave flows. WALO can install long side slope lining using specially designed machines without the need for regular joints.

Long slopes up to 1:1.5 can be constructed using our specially engineered equipment and our dense asphaltic concrete. Stability is not a problem because dense asphaltic concrete designed by WALO is always laid to a very high ‘Construction Quality Assurance.’
