· Penstocks
Jash Flange back frame penstocks are offered up to 3000x5000mm in size for seating and unseating water heads up to 30m. Flat back frame and flange back frame penstocks are either wall or thimble wall mounted, and are used to isolate flow in and out of a conduit. Flat back frame penstocks up to 700x700mm in size are suitable for 6m seating and 3m unseating water heads.

Open channel penstocks are mounted between parallel side walls to isolate flow in a channel, and are suitable for seating and unseating water head, with water height less thangate height. Downward opening weir penstocks are used for decanting and maintaining water levels in reservoirs or tanks.

· Flap valves
Flap valves provide automatic drainage from outfall structures, and prevent reverse flow during floods and high tides.

· Stop boards
Stop boards are offered for infrequent isolation requirements.

Composition & Manufacture
Flat back frame, flange back frame, open channel and weir penstocks are offered in ductile iron, cast iron, stainless steel, aluminium and composite steel/plastic (HDPE with SS).

Stop boards are offered in stainless steel, aluminium and HDPE & timber. The products are manufactured to comply with the applicable BS 7775 and AWWA C-560 standards.

Spaans Babcock Ltd also offers full supply, installation and service support from our centrally located Heywood facilities.

· Installation is carried out by our in house confined space trained engineers.
· As well as the standard range of products a bespoke design service is available.
· In house foundry at manufacturing facilities.
· Manufacturing facilities are ISO approved.
· All gates are 100% leakage tested prior to leaving the factory.
· Gates available with rising and non-rising spindles.
· Gates can be supplied suitable for manual or actuated opening.


A full range of accessories are available including un-geared, geared and two speed geared headstocks, stem guides, stem covers (with or without opening indication), couplings and actuators.
