CIWEM calls for Living Wetlands awards

CIWEM and RSPB are calling for entries to the 2006 Living Wetlands Award to reward projects that demonstrate the multiple functions and sustainable use of wetland habitats.

The prize includes £1,500 to enhance the winning scheme’s impact and all entries must be received by 25th November 2005.

Ruth Davies, Head of water policy at the RSPB and Justin Taberham, Director of policy at CIWEM issued a joint statement saying:

“This Award provides an opportunity to highlight the range and quality of wetland projects around the UK, regardless of size. Each site is unique and we urge everyone involved in the creation, protection and promotion of these important habitats to enter for the Award – from local nature groups, farmers and individuals to water companies, environmental consultancies and local authorities.”

The 2005 Living Wetlands Award was won by the Essex Wildlife Trust’s Abbotts Hall Farm coastal realignment scheme, on the Blackwater Estuary.

The 2006 award will be revealed on February 2nd 2006.
