The Global Renewable Energy Awards, backed by Euromoney and Ernst & Young, are highly regarded by the corporate sector and winners have beaten off stiff competition from around the world to take the top spot in their categories.

Winners come from all corners of the globe and range from relatively small family-run concerns to household names known the world over.

Jonathan Johns, global head of renewables at Ernst & Young, said: “The list of winners and runners-up shows that these are now truly global awards.

“Climate change is the single most important issue facing business and government today. The renewable industry is determined to play its part in financing a sustainable future for ourselves and our children.

“Themes emerging from this year’s awards have been the high profile of IPOs such as that of Suzlon, Suntech Power and REC, the emergence of an active M&A market, with increased participation by infrastructure funds and the increased innovation in the financial sector in terms of debt instruments.

“Both BP and John Deere, as household names, have aggressively entered the wind market, and in the Clinton Climate Initiative and Virgin’s announcement of a huge investment in biofuels, possible contenders for next year’s awards are already emerging.”

“We congratulate this year’s winners and look forward to the current crop plus new contenders, such as Virgin and others, contending for next year’s awards. By that time, micro-generation is likely to be playing its own part as consumers become producers, as well as buying green power from large scale renewable providers.”
