Time is fast running out for those who wish to have their say on Government plans to force developers to reduce the carbon emissions of new housing between now and 2012, when all new homes will have to be carbon neutral.

Pilot schemes are planned for Bristol and the East Midlands to show how small developments can be self sufficient in terms of energy while remaining economically feasible.

The planned developments will use wind, photovoltaics, solar thermal and ground source heat pumps to heat and power the homes.

The policy proposals are outlined in a document, Building a Greener Future: Towards Zero Carbon Development, with consultation coming to an end this Thursday, March 8.

The consultation papers can be found on the Communities and Local Government website.
