A new gasification plant on the Isle of Wight will be producing 2.3MW of energy from waste by 2008, the company behind the project has said.
The plant employs a gasification method, an alternative to incineration, using a two-stage thermal process system, producing a gas, with the resulting thermal energy used to produce electricity.
The Defra-backed project will see 60,000 tonnes of waste used for energy generation each year, diverging 15,000 tonnes of waste from landfill, according to Energos, the company behind the venture.
