Part of the Irish Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) climate change lecture series, ‘Technological Solutions: Grey Clouds and Silver Linings’ will be delivered by Dr Leonard Bernstein at the city’s Alexander Hotel.

Dr Bernstein is one of the chief writers for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Fourth Assessment Synthesis Report, and will be speaking about how low-emission technology can be utilised.

Drastic greenhouse gas emissions reductions are required if the EU is to meet its targets, but current and future technologies can help with this, Dr Leonard will argue.

Remaining lectures in the series include ‘Gain v Pain: Political and Economic Consequences and Options’ by Malta’s climate change ambassador, Michael Zammit Cutajar.

One technology that is being used to help Ireland reduce emissions is wind power. The country recently introduced a support price for offshore wind energy, backed by the government, which will hopefully stimulate its further development.
