The company has 14 operational wind farms in the Republic of Ireland and supplies green electricity to more than 38,000 commercial customers.

The Tappaghan Wind Farm Community Fund is designed to directly benefit the local community, and is open to all community-based projects within a ten kilometre radius of the Tappaghan wind farm.

A total of £13,000 is up for grabs, and projects that are likely to benefit are those economic, social or educational programmes with an environmental theme, or that are linked to sustainable activities.

Local projects that want to apply have until April 11th to submit their applications.

Airtricity was purchased by Scottish and Southern Energy in February this year.

Last year it was named the best company to work for in Ireland by the Great Place to Work Institute.
