ADAS strengthens environmental services with appointment of new chairman

ADAS Group, the UK's leading environmental and agricultural services provider, has appointed senior environment sector figurehead Dr. Valentin von Massow as non-executive Chairman.

Valentin brings with him over 25 years’ experience in delivering professional services to the corporate sector, governments and NGOs. His clients included a wide variety of national and international companies and organisations in the energy and environment sectors across Europe and Asia. He also has a strong personal interest in rural issues and for some time managed his own 140 hectare farm in Germany.

He will drive the next phase of business development at ADAS as the group continues to expand in environmental and organic waste management services as well as its trademark agricultural services.

Following his PhD in Agricultural Economics at the University of Göttingen, Valentin spent two years at the International Livestock Centre for Africa where he directed applied research and advised governments across sub-Saharan countries on livestock economics and policies.

During his 20 years with The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in Germany, UK and India, he pioneered the firm’s environmental practice and was a major contributor to the energy and utilities practice. Having been made a partner and Managing Director in 1993, he worked in the UK from 1996 to 2000 before taking over the development of the India business, which he turned around and steered onto a path of fast profitable growth.

Valentin left BCG in 2005 to focus on his interests in renewable energy, environment and agriculture. He is currently a non-executive director for a number of businesses within these areas in India, Germany and the UK and serves on the Board of Trustees for both WWF-UK and WWF-Germany.

“I am very excited about the opportunities available to ADAS and delighted to be joining the UK’s leading environmental and agricultural service provider and such a strong brand,” says Dr. Von Massow. “ADAS has an incredible depth of expertise and a unique combination of skills that will become ever more precious as we tackle the triple challenge of sustainable food, energy and waste management. The role of ADAS Chairman will draw heavily on my strategic and operational development strengths, but I look forward to the challenge. It nicely complements my other non-executive roles in this area.”

Colin Speller, managing director of ADAS, said: “A strong personal interest in environmental issues coupled with a distinguished career in professional services makes Valentin ideally qualified to deliver a very positive contribution to the next phase of ADAS’s development and he will play a key role in growing our environmental services. He is keen to help us to maximise our opportunities and we are very pleased to have him onboard.”
