Kilcock housing estate to connect to public water mains

A housing estate in Kilcock is set to be connected to the public water mains, ending the need for individuals to gain their water from an on-site well.

The Ryebridge estate has had to gain its water from the well because of a water supply shortage in the Greater Dublin area.

Although the water from the well was regularly monitored by the Health Service Executive, An Bord Pleanala has stated that it was inappropriate for a large scale residential development to not be connected to regular water supplies, in the interests of public health.

The application for the connection is set to be accepted in the coming weeks, allowing the estate to be connected to the public supply, removing any beliefs from them that their water was contaminated, according to the Leinster Leader.

Also, complaints had begun to surface from residents that some of the hard water had caused damage to washing machines and showers.

Local residents in a Galway suburb recently began a protest after they had to source their own water for six weeks, as their general water supply became contaminated with lead.
