SLR Consulting secures planning permission for 50 new homes on brownfield land

Leading UK environmental consultancy, SLR Consulting has secured planning permission for 50 new homes on a brownfield site in Blaencwm for Glaister Russell Developments.

The two, three and four bedrooms homes (28 units on Phase 1 and 22 units on Phase 2) will be built on 1.5 hectares comprising of two plots of former colliery and railway land.

The schemes, managed in-house by SLR, include improvements to the local road network, funding for the improvement of the adjoining open space and children’s play area, as well as upgrading the local footpath network.

The land had been vacant for some years prior to its acquisition by the Cardiff-based developer which recognised the significant potential it offers for enhancing Blaencwm. Despite the current economic downturn, Glaister Russell is taking a long term approach to residential development in the Rhondda Valley and is committed to pursuing the scheme.

The planning applications were accompanied by detailed highways and ecological assessments, as well as a Design Statement referred to by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council as an exemplar of ‘Good Practice’ within their Supplementary Planning Guidance on Design Statements.
