He said delegates at the London meeting had decided that “accelerating the transition to a green economy” was one of the main steps to economic recovery.
US President Barack Obama also suggested the Major Economies Forum be re-established – a proposal that was welcomed by Gordon Brown.
Mr Miliband added discussions also focused on achieving a mutually accepted deal ahead of the climate change summit, which is due to take place in Copenhagen in December.
This marks the first time all major players have collectively committed to ironing out an agreement.
“These are good outcomes, establishing the central role of climate change in economic policy even in the midst of this financial and economic crisis,” the Energy Secretary said.
It comes after European Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas called for “tangible progress” in discussions ahead of the Copenhagen summit.
