Irish company to develop new technologies in England’s Northwest

Irish owned electrical engineering solutions company, Enersol has chosen England's Northwest to set up its first international base, creating up to 30 jobs in the region over the next three years.

After working closely with the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), the company will be based at the Energy Innovation Centre at EA Technology.

Enersol will also collaborate with the University of Manchester on the research and development of energy distribution networks, looking at how to connect renewable energy to the grid.

This will involve working closely with the Joule Centre for Energy Research.

Steven Broomhead, chief executive at the NWDA said: “At a time when many industries are facing difficult economic circumstances, it is encouraging to be part of a success story that will bring up to 30 jobs to the region. Enersol have ambitious plans that will assist in positioning the Northwest as the leading region in tackling climate change.

“The NWDA has recently launched a number of initiatives to support the development and installation of low carbon technologies, encourage low carbon innovation and support organisations that will help to fulfil the Northwest’s mission to become the leading region on climate change by 2020.”

Oisin McCann, managing director at Enersol said: “The NWDA has been critical in our decision to invest in the Northwest. The support we have received from organisations such as the Joule Centre and the Energy Innovation Centre will enable us to establish a successful base in the region.”

Peter Crossley, director of the Joule Centre said: “Enersol is a leading company in the design and engineering of distribution substations and wind farms, and for NWDA to attract it to the Energy Innovation Centre is a tremendous opportunity for the region and the Northwest Universities involved in renewable energy research and deployment.”

After opening in 2008, Enersol will be the Energy Innovation Centre’s first foreign investment company to make a base at the centre.
