Riversimple, a small UK-based business aiming to produce highly energy-efficient vehicles for personal transport, unveiled the Riversimple Car this week.

Hugo Spowers, who led the design project which built the prototype, said: “This car runs on hudrogen fuel the cleanest fuel money can buy.

“Its CO2 emissions are four times less then the cleanest car on the market today.

“And if we use hydrogen from renewable sources that’s 40 times cleaner.”

The two seater car can go reach speeds of up to 50mph and travels 200 miles between refuelling – equalling about 300 miles to the gallon.

Riversimple hopes to have the car in production by 2012 leasing them to drivers at an estimated £200 a month, including maintenance and repair.

The design will also be made public so the car can be manufactured around the country on a local basis.
