Edie shines spotlight on CRC

The Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) is likely to be one of the most far-reaching pieces of regulation to come out of Whitehall for years and with this in mind we've set aside a section of the website devoted to the subject.

While most major corporations have already voluntarily embraced carbon accounting and implemented at least some sort of reduction strategy, this will be the first time they will really feel Government breathing down their necks.

The CRC aims to be a broad carbon trading scheme for the big energy users and carbon emitters not already covered by the EU Emissions Trading Scheme.

It will impact on both public and private sector organisations when it kicks in next April.

In practice, the organisations will not have to be vast to be covered by the CRC – most secondary schools, hospitals, supermarkets, major offices and local authorities will find themselves needing to comply.

Defra expects around 20,000 organisations to be affected by the CRC initially.

With such a broad impact, we thought it would be useful to pull together all the news, views and information we publish on the CRC and package it in a way that will make navigating this complex issue more straightforward for the novice and more convenient for those already au fait with the detail.

We’re also inviting organisations who are already taking steps to comply to share best practice with their peers.

Please take a look at our new CRC site and let us know what you think.
