The city’s mayor Michael Bloomberg joined building industry leaders to make the announcement last Friday (25 September).

Called ‘One Year, One Thousand Green Supers’ the scheme aims to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of the city – which is currently 70% of New York’s total emissions.

The programme will work on a local level in the Big Apple and is backed by the U. Green Building Council and the Building Performance Institute.

Successful applicants to the course will attend around 40 hours worth of classes to learn the latest on green buildings.

Announcing the scheme Mr Bloomberg said: “One Year, One Thousand Green Supers provides a low-cost way to make our buildings more energy and cost efficient, and our environment cleaner, all while saving our city millions of dollars.”
