Water reviews an ‘opportunity’

Fears over water reviews being swept away should a general election bring a change of political leadership are unfounded, according to the chief executive of Ofwat.

Regina Finn, speaking at Water 2009 regulation, recession sustainability and competition: adapting successfully to the challenges ahead, said the reviews were an ‘opportunity’ and a ‘challenge’.

With two large scale reviews recently completed, and the full Walker Review due out later this year, Mrs Finn spoke out about concerns over a political change at next year’s planned election.

She said: “It’s an opportunity, a challenge to keep it on the agenda if it slips off we have ourselves to blame.

“We need to keep this momentum up and make sure the politicians don’t lose the momentum.”

The event was organised by Marketforce and IEA and was held in London on Wednesday (October 14).
