Thousands march against climate change

Thousands marched across London to drive home the message of stopping climate change the weekend before crucial climate change talks start in Copenhagen.

The march yesterday (5 December) saw about 50,000 people wearing blue, carrying banners and shouting slogans.

The groups were met by energy and climate change secretary, Ed Miliband, and a selected group also met Gordon Brown in Downing Street.

Stop Climate Chaos director, Ashok Sinha said of the march: “More than 50,000 from across the UK came together in London today, with many more gathering in Glasgow and Belfast, to demand Gordon Brown make Copenhagen count.

“I have been really impressed by the number of parents who came and marched today with their kids, those people who left home several days ago to come by bike, and the many people who got up at the crack of dawn to be here and won’t be home till the early hours.

“This is the first time we have seen such a large coming together of people from all walks of life across all sectors of UK society, in such an active demonstration of how passionately they care about climate change.”
