The two-mile long uninhabited island, know as South Talpatti by Bangladesh and New Moore Island by India, was claimed by both countries.
But climate change has made both claims irrelevant, as rising sea levels make this the latest island to disappear in the bay.
In 1996 Indian nationals who had settled on the nearby island of Lohachara were forced to move to the mainland as it was over-run by the sea.
At least ten other islands face a future underwater in the region, with low-lying Bangladesh one of the countries most at risk from climate change.
