Volcanic ash pours over UK

All flights from British airports have been disrupted and many grounded as the volcanic ash sweeps down from Scotland and Ireland towards northern England.

The volcano has been exploding for a number of weeks, however the plume this morning (April 15) is much bigger and has spread towards the UK.

It is, currently, in the upper atmosphere and so far only presents a threat to air travel and the ash can block plane engines.

However, the Met Office says it’s too early to know if any significant amount of the ash will land on the ground.

Known as ashfall deposit large amounts can destroy most of the local ecosystem, as well the collapse of roofs on man-made structures.
