Bookies offer just 8/11 on BP boss keeping job

As British Petroleum fights to stop oil pouring into the Gulf of Mexico its embattled chief executive was dealt another blow with bookmakers offering poor odds on him still being in post at Christmas.

Irish Bookie Paddy Power is offering odds of just 8/11 on Tony Haywood, who only got the top job 2007, keeping it for the rest of 2010.

The odds mean if you were to bet £1 the best return you’d get would be about 73p – indicating the bookmaker believes there’s no chance Mr Haywood will keep his job.

You can also bet on who might take the over reins at the group, with executive director Iain Conn a 5/2 favourite, followed by executive director Andy Inglis at 3/1 and director Robert Dudley also at 3/1.

Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power, said: “There’s no real threat hanging over Hayward’s head just yet but how this catastrophe plays out over the coming weeks will obviously have a huge influence.”
