This event – the 19th in the history of the tournament – will feature some of the very greenest technologies.

Some teams – Including Portugal, Brazil and South Korea – for example will take to the pitch in shirts made entirely of recycled polyester.

The jerseys have, according to makers Nike, diverting 13M plastic bottles from landfills.

“Nike will give footballers an edge by providing the newest and most innovative product for the game’s greatest players,” said Charlie Denson, president, Nike Brand.

“We are equipping athletes with newly designed uniforms that not only look great and deliver performance benefits, but are also made with recycled materials, creating less impact on our environment.”

As well as that some of the venues will be powered by bio-gas from nearby landfills and all match locations will feature two solar powered bill boards.
