Acres of landfill to be capped

More than ten acres of landfill will eventually be capped after the local authority decided against expanding the site.

The Northampton Department of Public Works (DPW) in Massachusetts, began construction on the Glendale Road landfill last week.

The project involves capping approximately 2.5 acres with nine acres remaining to be capped.

A spokesman for the DPW said: “The work includes final grading of the area, connecting the new cap to the existing cap and liner, installation of new gas collection wells and gas collection piping.

“As well as storm-water management improvements and the construction of an access road, these construction activities may result in a temporary increase in off-site odours.”

Construction activities will be underway Monday through Friday from 7am to 5pm until the work is complete in October.
