New iPhone application to help builders clean up their act

The Site Clean Up application is intended to tackle the problem for main contractors of sub-contractors, which clean too slowly or not at all.

This leaves untidy and potentially unsafe sites with main contractors having to employ additional staff to clean-up the sites.

It creates environmental and safety problems and costs contractors hundreds of thousands of euros annually.

Peter Daly, company managing director and co-founder, said: “In today’s economic environment no building contractor can afford these sort of wastages and inefficiencies.

“Site Clean Up was developed as a response to a need builders were telling us about. The benefits of using our app will add to our clients’ bottom line immediately and also result in cleaner and safer building sites. It is also good for sub-contractors who get to run their businesses more efficiently so it is a win-win app for all parties.”

The Site Clean Up application has been created by Irish firm Smartbuilder Software as a way of helping main building contractors monitor and boost the efficiency of sub-contractors charged with cleaning up sites.

Site managers can use their iPhones to record site infringements and order sub-contractors to clean up by a set date or face penalties.

It includes a dashboard displaying the status of issues and a facility allowing users to compare the performances of different sub-contractors.

The company, founded in January this year and based in NovaUCD, the Innovation and Technology Transfer Centre at University College Dublin, has priced the new application at €15.50 (£12.70).
