Viridor wins contract for new BBC site

Viridor continue to expand their waste and recycling empire with the award of a tender to manage the recycling and waste services at MediaCityUK, the new northern home of the BBC.


The site in Salford, Greater Manchester, is also to be the new home for ITV and houses parts of Salford University, hotels, bars, restaurants and retail outlets.

Viridor will use its recycling and energy recovery facilities across the North West in the operation as well as other recovery facilities.

The waste management company will also partner MediaCityUK in developing sustainable waste and recycling strategies which will focus upon residential training, resource optimisation and carbon efficiency.

MediaCityUK’s managing director of real estate, Stephen Wild said: “With our title as the world’s first BREEAM approved community we are committed to environmental sustainability.

“With Viridor on board we are confident that we will continue to develop more waste minimising and recycling strategies, ensuring that we preserve our green and eco-friendly community here at MediaCityUK.”
