Off-site construction specialist, Yorkon, has built the new Tesco superstore using the modular system, which means it was constructed in a factory and assembled piece-by-piece on site.

The store has a number of green features including roof-mounted photovoltaic solar panels.

It has also been built to make use of rainwater harvesting and is clad in timber from sustainable sources.

Tesco development manager at Tesco, Lorraine O’Sullivan, said: “From a customer experience perspective, you cannot tell this is a modular building.

“The over-cladding has been very effective and customers have been very complimentary about the new store.”
