Speaking today (May 24) at Nemex, part of Sustainabilitylive! in Birmingham’s NEC, Hannah Greig of DECC gave an update on the progress of the CRC.

She freely admitted the numerous changes to emission cutting system were ‘painful’, but added: “It would be worth it in the end.”

Ms Greig updated the seminar on the Government’s work to simplify the scheme promising to look at the 30 fuels covered by it and the possibility of bringing them down to simply gas electricity and heating.

She also said work was underway to clear up confusion surrounding half hourly metres and what does or doesn’t qualify under the CRC.

The next step is the simplification process for the CRC is draft legislation for formal written consultation in early 2012.
