The giant water drop is featured in the council’s
You Tube video
‘South Dublin County Council Water Conservation Video’.

A person in a giant water drop costume is seen running around the city past bemused passersby with the message “Stop running water”.

It may be inspired by an earlier You Tube video called ‘Running Toilets Waste Water’ by Denver Water in the US. That video features a person in a toilet costume running across a baseball pitch, finally rugby tackled and taken off by an official.

South Dublin Mayor, Cllr Caitriona Jones launched the South Dublin County Council Water Conservation Video.

She said: “Water is our most precious commodity and we must value it. Storage of raw water i.e. untreated water is at a very low level.

“It is important that we all do our bit to save 10% of our daily water usage – it’s easily done” Don’t leave the tap running, collect rain water to water plants, have a quick shower, fix leaking taps and stop running water.”

While there is no immediate water shortage in South Dublin, the council is appealing to the public and the business community to conserve water and to minimise usage.

The lower than average rain fall in recent months has led to a reduction in the volume of raw water available for treatment from the reservoirs at Poulaphouca, Roundwood and Bohernabreena.

The council is hoping to get the message across to consumers to make small changes in their lifestyles to use water in a sustainable way.
