Flood alerts issued for Wales, northwest and northeast

Wet weather conditions affected most of the UK overnight and will continue for the next few days according to the Met Office, which works with the agency to help warn of potential flooding in advance.

Six flood warnings for the northwest have been issued by the EA after rain heavy rain caused river levels to rise rapidly. The River’s Wyre, and Conder at Galgate, have reported a rise. A further 13 flood alerts were also issued for the northwest including the River’s Ribble, Cocker, Esk and Upper Eden.

Meanwhile, Wales received a flood warning for the Gwydir Road between Llanrwst and Trefriw as the agency warned that the road is expected to become impassable within the next two hours and warned the rainfall is forecast to continue for at least the next three hours when conditions are expected to deteriorate. The agency also issued an alert for that the Dyfi valley in north Wales.

In addition, high winds of up to 50mph have also been predicted on the south and south-east coasts of England as low pressure systems pass through.

A spokesperson from the Met Office told edie that the south-east of England is likely to hit by the strongest winds, while western Scotland is likely to get the most rainfall as around 40mm of rain is predicted to fall in the next 24 hours.

He added: “For most of the UK the rain has already fallen, but there will be some isolated showers over western Scotland and northwest England until late this evening.”
