Viridor acquires MRF operator

The acquisition is in line with Viridor’s drive to expand its recycling operations across the south east in a bid to further strengthen its position as a supplier of recyclate for the UK and international markets.

CWR operates an automated Materials Recycling Facility (MRF), processing commingled dry recyclables from long and medium-term contracts with local councils, as well as a smaller MRF in Enstone, Oxford, processing waste from municipal, commercial and industrial customers.

As part of the deal, CWR’s 69 contracted staff and 80 agency staff will continue to operate the facilities, which currently process 90,000 tonnes of material a year, under Viridor’s leadership.

Commenting on the acquisition Viridor south east regional director Graham Warren, said: “There is a vital need to continue delivering higher recycling and resource management levels across the UK. Community Waste Recycling has an excellent track record in providing essential recycling services to businesses and councils in its operating areas.”
