The latest IOW members to become chartered environmentalists are Welsh Water’s catchment water risk quality manager Phillippa Pearson and capital projects engineer Ashley Moule, as well as Northern Ireland Water drinking water regulation officer Lorraine Gillan.

To gain the recognised standard for excellence, environmental practitioners must demonstrate competence against key criteria, including the ability to analyse and evaluate problems from an environmental perspective and being able to demonstrate leadership in sustainable management and development.

IOW chief executive Lynn Cooper, said that the qualification demonstrates “sound knowledge, proven experience and a profound commitment to sustainable best practice”, adding that “it is the chartered environmentalists, working in all aspects of the water environment, including regulation, academia and national agencies, who will take a leading role in delivering the aspiration of a more sustainable world”.
