South East Water to invest further £90m

South East Water (SEW) has unveiled plans to invest a further £90m in water mains improvements in 2012/13 as it nears the halfway mark of its five-year programme.

As part of its £390m investment programme, launched in 2010, SEW aims to improve its existing network of water mains, secure water supplies by reducing leaks and ensure water supplies continue to meet strict water quality regulations.

Key projects completed in 2011 include the construction of two service reservoirs in Surrey and Kent and the installation of new water mains – bringing the investment total to approximately £84m.

SEW also plans to invest an additional £6m in 2012/13 in its infrastructure, with projects including water mains work in Sussex and Kent. It is anticipated that the work will enable greater flexibility in the transfer water. Work is also planned to upgrade a number of water treatment works.

Investment in finding and repairing leaks will also continue to be a priority, with SEW planning to spend more than £13m in leak detection and repair work.
