Waste industry is a ‘rising star’ of the future – Jon Snow

The waste industry's star is "definitely in the ascendency" according to Channel 4 presenter Jon Snow, who has praised the sector for the progress it has made in recent years.

He said those working in the industry had touched the lives of every British citizen by “breaking the surly bonds of the past” and developing modern waste management practices to divert materials from landfill and extract value from them.

“There is nobody in this country who doesn’t know about recycling, even if they don’t do it – and that is a big step change in itself. It’s an incredible success story,” he maintained.

Snow, who was talking at an industry awards ceremony hosted by letsrecycle.com yesterday in London (May 1) also touched upon the economic importance of recovery, saying that recycling was “the money-making end of the industry”.
