Salvation Army Trading Company (SATCoL) has signed new agreements to continue delivering its clothing collection scheme in three local authority areas – City of London Corporation, London Borough of Bexley and Cotswold District Council.

SATCoL will retain bring-bank sites containing a total of 58 banks across the three areas, with 37 in Bexley, 15 in the Cotswolds and 6 in the City of London, with additional sites in these areas being sought.

The organisation’s national recycling co-ordinator Paul Ozanne said: “We have maintained nearly 60 clothing banks sites and will be actively looking to develop additional sites in these locations.

“We understand that local authorities are under pressure to increase income and reduce spending, however we’re really pleased that the 300-plus councils that we work with understand the value of charity collections in helping to fund vital welfare services in communities.”

Meanwhile WYG will be supervising a €25m project to modernise the solid waste management infrastructure in the Covasna county of Romania, bringing improved services to more than 200,000 residents.

Appointed by Covasna County Council and due to start work next month, the consultancy will look to bring infrastructure in line with EU standards.

Under the deal, WYG will supervise works in four towns: Sfantu Gheorghe, Targu Secuiesc, Covasna and Intorsura Buzaului. The work involves construction of a landfill facility, waste transfer station and the closing of four non-compliant landfills.

WYG project director Valentin Micu said the project was a significant win for the company.

“We have a strong presence in Romania’s policy advice sector providing socio-economic work and this project is, we hope, the first of many to provide our technical services in the waste management and environment infrastructure sectors.”
