GreenEfW Investments Limited aims to provide a 70,000 tonne a year materials recovery facility (MRF) at the Cornwall Bio-Park development in Scorrier.

The plant will use advanced thermal treatment technology to recover energy from waste. The company says output should be sufficient to generate 4MW for export to the national grid for 8,000 hours per annum.

GreenEfW chief executive of investments Tom Petty explained “We do not burn anything, but rather use a thermo-chemical process to convert solid waste into a clean, usable and high value gas which is then used for conversion into electricity for export to the national grid”.

GreenEfW claim this will deliver a clean, low-impact and modular EfW facility.

It is estimated that the proposed development will create around 35 jobs in the area and the company hope they can commence export of renewable energy within 18 months.

Mr Petty said: “The decision to select Cornwall and the Cornwall Bio-Park development for the deployment of over £20m of capital investment was made after careful deliberation and after selection from a number of potential sites within the UK, it demonstrates a commitment to working with Cornwall to partner in its development as the Greenest and most sustainable County in the Country”.
