Time to invest in Irish water says British ambassador

“There will be opportunities for British companies as Ireland modernises its water industry,” said Ambassador Dominick Chilcott.

Referring to the introduction of water metering, more targeted water charges for domestic use, and legislation requiring the registration of septic tanks, Chilcott said the water business partnership between Britain and Ireland had more potential than ever

“Although in this sector relationships between British and Irish companies are not very extensive, there is the potential to do more together,” he said.

He also explained that climate change offered opportunities in the sector as the pattern of rainfall changed dramatically. He pointed out that this trend was apparent at the exhibition’s location on the east coast of Ireland.

“We shall all have to adapt to cope with the changing rainfall patterns and adaptation will bring new opportunities to the water sector in Ireland,” he said

To conclude his speech he addressed British SMEs at the venue:

“I hope your venture into the Irish market will boost your companies’ competitiveness and profitability and if you manage that, you will also be making a contribution to the wider UK economy, and of course to the strengthening of relations between Britain and Ireland.”
