The Dragon’s Den investor has lent her backing to the launch of a free digital sustainability tool, Horizons, developed by the Technology Strategy Board and Forum for the Future.
The tool is designed to help businesses identify sustainability issues, risks and opportunities, and integrate them into strategy, commercial decisions, and innovation.
Meaden said that despite the tough economic climate, there was “genuine desire” among British firms to embrace the green agenda.
“Growing numbers are seeing the business case of understanding the big trends coming their way and working for the long term, and Horizons is a great resource to help them do that,” she said.
The open access tool, which is currently in Beta mode, comprises a number of ‘cards’ which outline the issues and trends driving development of the future economy, such as access to information, levels of pollution, public trust, and energy security.
Detailed information on why each issue is important is available, plus links, films and case studies to bring the issues to life.
The Technology Strategy Board’s head of sustainability Richard Miller added that bringing sustainability thinking into mainstream business activities was now a pressing issue.
“The sustainability challenge that the world economy faces represents a fantastic opportunity for smart and innovative businesses to create new products, services and business models,” he said.
