Resource management firms join Zero Waste Scotland’s Sector Commitment

Both firms join 18 other organisations already signed up to the voluntary commitment, which requires signatories to demonstrate consistent standards for business waste collections and excellent customer service, including promoting the benefits of resource efficiency to its customers.

Zero Waste Scotland is funded by the Scottish Government to support the delivery of its Zero Waste Plan and other resource efficiency policy priorities.

The organisation is now urging other firms in the industry to follow suit in signing up to the commitment, which is for any organisation involved in providing waste or resource management services to customers in Scotland including local authorities, private and third sector resource organisations.

The news was announced today (28 October) – the first day of Zero Waste Scotland’s 13th annual Scottish Resources Conference, delivered in partnership with the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM).The two-day conference will focus on the role of innovation, leadership and policy in helping to create a circular economy.

Speaking about the new signatories, Zero Waste Scotland director Iain Gulland said: “By signing up to the commitment, organisations can publicly demonstrate their support for Scotland’s zero waste ambitions, as well as instilling customer confidence in their services. As awareness for this industry standard grows, it could be a key credential your customers look for.

“Many organisations are already discovering the benefits of becoming a signatory and I would encourage any firms not yet signed up to get in touch.”

Glasgow Computer Recycling director Grant Morgan said that he was “delighted” to receive “this recognition of our commitment to securely reusing computers and IT equipment and responsibly recycling small electric equipment”.

He explained that support from Zero Waste Scotland has allowed his firm to expand its service offering and invest in equipment “to further meet any IT Asset Disposal requirements so businesses can recycle their old computers confidently and cost effectively”.

Barr Environmental commercial recycling and transport manager Gordon Whiteford added: “We have a long-standing relationship with a number of Scottish local authorities and private sector companies, and by signing up to Scotland’s Resource Sector Commitment we are making a strong statement about our pledge to continue to provide our clients with high quality resource management services in tandem with an outstanding customer experience.”
