The full-electric Twizy service saw Renault offering the special promotion as an alternative to taxis and buses overwhelmed by commuters trying to get to work during the tube strike by London Underground workers today (6 August).

Londoners were informed over Twitter to look out for Renault’s offer of free travel using its fleet of Twizy shuttles.

Renault describes the full-electric Twizy as “somewhere between a scooter and a van”, although the Twizys used today offered a two-seater model to carry a passenger.

Renault says the Twizy can be recharged using a domestic power point in just three and a half hours and has a range of 62 miles.

The launch of the Twizy fleet came during London Underground workers’ 24 hour tube strike. The Underground unions were protesting against work conditions as a result of the upcoming introduction of London’s Night Tube.

The free rides in the Twizy’s come after Scotland launched its largest electric car club using Renault’s electric ZOE hatchbacks.
